After seeing so many redheads here in Missoula, I knew I had moved to the right place. I am not sure what draws people with red hair to this beautiful valley in the mountains but here we are anyways. There have been a large Irish immigration to the area including the nearby city of Butte which boasts to have had the greatest number of immigrants from Ireland to the USA during the copper mine days. In addition, I quite often meet gingers that have moved here from my home state of Minnesota where based on my ancestry can be Irish, German or Scandinavian-like Red-haired Vikings. My goal is to organize a redhead festival of Western Montana. Thanks for your help!
The Vikings were known for their red hair and probably are responsible for spreading the red hair gene all over Europe. The Viking God Thor was known to possess those red curly locks, yes Marvel is wrong, he is not blonde. There is an argument to where red hair came from, such as from the Vikings, Celts, Irish or Scottish. Being that the red hair gene is recessive, who will ever know. I mean they call the redhead stepchild for a reason- because no one knows where they came from. I, myself come from parents who are German and mostly Norwegian. Neither had red hair. Maybe I was mailman’s kid or switched at birth. So I could be from Celtic or Viking.
Researchers claim all redheads come from one redhead. The problem that I have until someone explains it me is this: I thought you need two people that possessed the redhead gene to create a redhead. So, how did we come from one redhead? Frankly, I think I have a Neanderthal in me.

Claims have been made against Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II having red hair, stating that his hair was dyed with henna. I would agree because most redheads are proud of their red hair and greatly desire it to remain so even when they age and it turns white. Well, recent scientific research suggests he really did have red hair. It was discovered that his hair roots contained red pigment signifying that he was indeed a redhead.
The family of Ramses worshipped Seth, the red-haired god of chaos, because of their belief to a divine lineage to him, proof in the face that many of them had red hair. The father of Ramses II, Seti I, had red hair.
A mummy of red-haired man has been uncovered in Egypt that is over 5000 years old named appropriately, Ginger.
I have told this information to many redheads and I always get the same mouth dropping and head shaking because redheads were up in the northern latitudes and Egyptians must look like middle easterns and have darker hair and skin.
The image to the left was found on the tomb of the granddaughter of King Khufu.
Note red hair.

This is the motto of a red-haired festival in a location that might surprise: Russia. The Udmurtia ethnic nation claims to have the most red hair outside Ireland.
At first thought, the idea of redheads uniting around the world was a little perplexing. What would be the purpose? Personally, would I want to be around a bunch of people like myself? I guess I relish being unique in the world. In fact it might be a little scary, the thought that our red hair might all catch on fire or a big fight might break out. Perhaps take over the world!
Redheads are Fiery!
When redheads are described, usually words of energy come to mind, like fiery, hot-tempered and flaming. Picture Vikings raiding seacoast villages and establishing trade routes throughout Europe. Even the country name, Russia, where Vikings sailed on the Volga River, means ‘to row.’ The Vikings traveled far and wide, from North America to the Mediterranean. Ancient redheads are known to have traveled worldwide, evidenced in the discovery of red-haired mummies found everywhere, including South America and China.
Studies have shown that redheads have a propensity for hyperactivity. An Israeli psychiatrist, Dr Michael Bar, reported that redheaded children are three to four times more likely than others to develop hyperactivity. He said, “it’s possible that the assumed national characteristics of certain ethnic groups, like the adventurousness of the Vikings and the temperament of the Irish, are connected to the high frequency of redheads among them.”
Redheads are from Mars?
Astrologers claim there is a connection between the red planet Mars and the fiery nature of people with red hair. Redheads are notorious for their well-known hot-tempered, high strung and sensitive natures. In astrology, if the planet Mars is in your charts, it has the affect of placing fiery, competitive and almost explosive tendencies into your behavior.
So if you are a redhead with many interests, ie ‘too many irons in the fire,’ don’t worry, it’s a redhead thing.

Sensitive skin is a major factor for red-heads. Sunburn, rashes, and allergic reactions all come easily to fair-skinned gingers. Finding suitable clothing can be a challenge, especially considering most cotton is genetically modified and soaked with chemical pesticides, fertilizers and insecticides; synthetic fabrics are harsh and hot; and wool is itchy. The solution? Linen!
Who can resist the allure of linen? Elegant, cool in summer, warm in winter, crisp when new, soft and silky with age. My entire life I have been captivated by the fabric. At the age of 15 I made my first linen shirt for a Lord of the Rings costume convention. Thirteen years later I made my wedding dress of linen. To this day I ransack thrift stores in search of anything flax, which I can tell just by touch.
Why the obsession? At first I liked linen for no apparent reason other than its nice texture and classic good looks. After delving deeper into its history and uses, I am in awe of the many benefits and power to heal contained in this simple grass with blue flowers.
Linen is the oldest textile in the world, with records of the fabric dating back to 30,000 BC. Due to its amazing versatility and exceptional beauty, it was revered throughout the world, and was even used as currency. The Egyptians called it “woven moonlight” and the Romans named it the “extremely useful flax plant”.
Called the king of fabrics, linen is the highest quality, strongest and longest lasting of all natural fabrics. Its smooth, fluid qualities increase with age and wearing, and it wrinkles less with time. Thicker and longer than cotton fibers, linen fibers are so strong they are added to paper money to increase its durability. Linen does not accumulate static or develop pilling, and can last for decades.
Cool, Dry and Fresh – Naturally!
Linen fibers are hollow, allowing the fabric to retain heat in winter and release it in summer, naturally keeping you warm or cool based on the season and your own body temperature. It is nature’s wicking agent, absorbing 20% of its weight in moisture before feeling damp. It is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, hypo-allergenic, non-toxic, and blocks 50% of UV radiation!
Not only does linen adapt to your body’s temperature, it is also energetically complementary to human frequencies. Its synergy with the human body makes it soothing to sensitive skin, and can even relieve irritation and allergies. It is known to relieve stress, improve sleep, reduce arthritis and dermatitis, speed the healing of wounds, and shield the body from harmful radiation. The thread is used in internal sutures because of the human cell’s ability to dissolve flax with ease. The extremely high energetic frequency of linen actually increases health, energy and wellbeing.
Linen’s sacred status throughout history is well deserved. Only with the advent of modern textile making has linen become less popular, since it is best handmade. It is time to restore this magical fabric to its rightful place of honor. Red-head or not, go buy some today and experience the wonderful difference it makes to your health and wellbeing. You’ll look great, too!
As a redhead, do you or have you been told that your temper is out of control? Are you controversial with fire? Do you have hard time settling down and being content where you are? Have you been exiled from your family, your job or friends? You might even say banished. Don’t fret, Erik the Red was just like you and look what he accomplished. Sometimes you have to rock the ship and no one is better suited than a redhead. Skol!
45,000 red-haired women are estimated to have been burned for witchcraft in 15th century Germany. According to the manual on identifying a witch, Malleus Maleficarum, a sure sign would be her having red hair and green eyes.
I believe redheads have supernatural abilities that some would label as sorcery or witchcraft.
This may signify the importance of the recessive gene. How can they exterminate all redheads when the gene ‘hides’ itself?
“According to Taoist legend, Huang Di, had supernatural capabilities. It is said that his mother conceived him after she was energized by swirling light.”
The Yellow Emperor (Huangdi) of China is the father of Chinese Medicine. Huangdi, who lived 5000 years ago, was supposedly named for the yellow soil of the plains, loess. However, others argue that he was in fact named for the golden color of his hair, meaning he was caucasian. Huangdi was the name of a caucasian tribe that emigrated to China in 2700BC. This discovery made by the Chinese is the reason I created this website. It’s profound for myself and I will try to link the connection to red hair. This might provide a historical and cultural connection to those learning and practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), who often feel a separation for not being Chinese, being unable to fully engage in the ancient spiritual Daoism from which TCM is based.
This is not taking anything from the Chinese as I thank God everyday for meeting the Chinese Master, hiding out as a janitor at a college of TCM, who healed me with qigong and tuina, then graciously taught me this ancient art, Emei Li Ji Qigong. (Read more here on page 3 “How Tuina-Chinese Therapeutic Massage Saved My Life”) This article is more about discovery of a connection to my ancient red-haired ancestry of possible Tuatha de Danann, Druids and the Shining Ones, which has been obliterated by history.
I experienced what I believe to be a genetic unlocking of ancient knowledge of the redhaired race. I was taught an ancient art of healing known as tuina. It is deeply steeped in the Daoist Arts. Something inside me said there was an ancient connection to what I did not know. Then I read about the race of Shining Ones imparting their knowledge to the Chinese. Later I read about the redhaired mummies they found in the Tarim Basin in China dated some 4000 BC, possibly connected to the Tuatha de Danann. The Tuatha were known for their fiery red hair. How they were in Ancient China is a mystery. Then to find that the Yellow Emperor had golden hair, blonde or possibly red made this deep connection that opened a complex lock of my ancient heritage.
“His golden colored hair and beard gave to his appearance a celestial aspect.”
Most people think that Jesus, being Jewish, must have had dark hair. However, its not out of the question for red hair to be found in the Middle East. In 2014, a gathering of about 200 red-haired Jews came together in Israel. King David is known to have red hair as well.
The proof comes from an actual historical letter from Pontius Pilate to Tiberius Caesar. Pontius Pilate writes:
One day I observed in the midst of a group of people a young man who was leaning against a tree, calmly addressing the multitude. I was told it was Jesus. This I could easily have suspected so great was the difference between Him and those who were listening to Him. His golden colored hair and beard gave to his appearance a celestial aspect. He appeared to be about 30 years of age. Never have I seen a sweeter or more serene countenance. What a contrast between Him and His bearers with their black beards and tawny complexions!
Another source is from the sleeping prophet, Edgar Cayce. Falling into a trance state, Cayce would diagnose illnesses and describe past events. Cayce talked often of the life of Jesus Christ. He described Him as having blue eyes and golden red hair.
